22% Decline in Online Poker since Black Friday

According to new figures that have become available, there is now concrete numbers to the decrease in traffic in the online poker world since the US government shut down PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker in the United States on 15th April, 2011, which is now known as Black Friday.

The statistics that were released highlight how much online poker has suffered as a result of Black Friday when the US government indicted 11 online poker executives and seized the domain names of three of the largest poker rooms operating in the United States.

It was found that there has been a global decline of cash poker players online of 22% on the two weekends following Black Friday compared to the number of players on the two weekends prior to Black Friday. The decline is due almost entirely to the inability of USA players to play on the sites that were shutdown.

PokerStars appears to have taken the least damage with a 28% drop in traffic on the site.

Full Tilt Poker has seen a larger decline with only half of its normal traffic on the weekend after Black Friday. However it seemed to recover a bit last weekend and has suffered an overall loss of approximately 35% of its player base.

Absolute Poker and the Cereus Network have suffered the most with network traffic down by 65%. This has been a crippling blow for Cereus, which drew heavily on the USA market.

Online players have now moved to other US friendly poker sites such as the Merge Network, Bodog Poker and the Cake Network.
