Betfair to be creating One Hundred New Jobs in Ireland

Following a very successful float on the London Stock Exchange, UK online betting exchange firm, Betfair, made an announcement that it is to open a new office in Dublin.

Betfair will be creating one hundred new jobs over the next few months and will be giving its English customer operation teams the option of relocating to Ireland and has already started recruiting new customer service as well as data centre management workers.

The company is the world’s biggest online gambling provider and already has 2,000 people in its employ across the globe which includes 300 engineers or IT specialists. Betfair handles an average of five million transactions each day which is far more than all of Europe’s combined stock exchanges.

Chief Executive of Betfair, David Yu, commented on the relocation of part of Betfair’s business to Dublin by saying that Ireland has become a number one destination for world-leading online companies and they are very proud that they will be joining other global technology firms in making a significant investment in Ireland.

The Irish Minister of State for Science, Conor Leniham, reported that Ireland is become a location of choice for many of the world’s most advanced internet and digital content companies at a very fast pace.

Betfair has been threatening to move its operations out of the UK to a place where it would not pay such a high betting tax after being involved in a dispute with the British Horseracing Authority in connection with a horse racing levy.
