Betfred to Sponsor World Snooker Championship

BetFred has announced that it is to become the main sponsor of the World Snooker Championship for a period of four years. The championship was previously sponsored by online gaming operator 888.com who withdrew from the sponsorship in August 2008 because of the difficult economic climate.

The World Snooker Championship will be televised live from Saturday April 18th and ends two weeks later on Monday May 4th at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

Many of snooker’s top professional players will take part in this championship, including Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Stephen Hendry, Ali Carter, Steve Davis and Shaun Murphy. This tournament will undoubtedly be a highlight of the sporting calendar.

BBC Sport covered the tournament for 127 hours last year while 24.5 million adults watched no less than five minutes of consecutive action. The tournament received world coverage and reached over 60 million people on Eurosport. In China alone over 10 million people watched the tournament on CCTV5.

World Snooker Chairman, Sir Rodney Walker announced that they are thrilled to enter into a four year partnership with BetFred. He also said that it is a benefit to all fans as BetFred is a wonderful company for their sport to be associated with and that the fact that a four year agreement was secured despite the current economic climate proves how popular snooker is in the UK as well as internationally.
