Facebook Bans Online Gambling Advertisements

One of the most popular and major social networking sites, Facebook, has decided to remove all forms of gambling advertisements from their site.

A while ago, Google, the world’s largest search engine also blocked websites related to online gambling but it has since rectified the problem.

Despite the fact that Facebook has applications through which casino games and poker may be played for free, they will be removing all advertisements for online gambling, including bingo, casinos, poker and sportsbooks.

It would appear as though the executives at Facebook are trying to protect their younger audience as the decision to ban online gambling advertising came shortly after it was discovered that underage Facebook users were being provided with x-rated content by Bing. Facebook are now taking preventative measures by blocking all types of “adult” entertainment from all Facebook users.

Many people are not altogether convinced that the ban on online gambling advertising is to protect underage gamblers but feel that it is due to the fact that they feel that gambling is a vice. This comes as a surprise in view of the possible change in gambling laws in the United States, which is the home of Facebook. It is not yet certain whether Facebook will once again allow online gambling advertising upon the repealing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

Other services that are prohibited from advertising on facebook include illegal drugs, nudity and offensive religious content as well as smoking promotions, spy equipment and weapons.
