Online casino and adverting company, Media Corp is hoping to sell www.gambling.com in one of the biggest sales of a domain in many years.
The group is hoping to sell the much sought after domain name of www.gambling.com for millions of dollars and is so certain of its success in selling the domain name that a reserve price of $9 million has been set on the site.
Lots of interest has already been shown by online gambling groups in the sale and it has been reported that Playtech and Bet365 have also been named as having shown an interest in being potential purchasers. Interest has also been shown by a few private equity firms.
At present, www.gambling.com runs as a portal where visitors are directed to numerous gambling sites and are then presented with the latest news connected to the gambling industry. The new buyer could make www.gambling.com one of the most flourishing sites in the world by changing all that and using a little creativity and originality.
Back in 2005 Media Corp purchased the gambling site for $20 million – more than double the amount it expects to recover from the sale of the site as since then, the value of the www.gambling.com site has dropped. The reason for the drop in value is because of the anti-gambling regulations introduced in the United States in 2006 in the form of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
The true value of the www.gambling.com site could be worth much higher than the price asked especially if things carry on moving in the direction of pro-gambling legislation in the US and any buyer of the domain name could be snapping up a bargain.
German Sedo Holding AG is selling the site on behalf of Media Corp.
