The Korean team has walked away with the biggest kudos at the first ever JBet Battle Of The Nations as part of the 2009 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Macau Festival. This tournament was at first scheduled to be a once-off event but due to its huge success it will more than likely become a yearly event.
The winning team, which included Brandon Wong and David ‘Chino’ Rheem and Steve Sung of Poker Pack, earned the 106 points to claim victory and the $52,386 cheque. The victory was so comprehensive that the winners were announced before the final table had even kicked off.
The runners-up from Vietnam were far enough behind with 89 points not to cause any hassle for the winners. Even though the Vietnamese team of brothers Nam Le, Tommy Le and Allan Le did not manage to win the tournament outright, two of the players still managed to walk away with top individual awards. Allan was awarded the top player prize and $12,346 and his sibling, Nam, was awarded $6,734 for second place.
The JBet Battle Of The Nations was one of 9 side events of the Macau Festival and many believe that the Festival is growing into one of the best on the world circuit. The other countries who sent teams were Australia, USA, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Canada, and Belarus. Belarus, as one of the underdogs due to their representatives being sent via winning satellite tournaments, are sure to make a better showing next year.
