Another argument in favor of those who are pushing for the introduction of an online gambling regime in Atlantic City: A recent report showed that visits to land casinos dropped by 6.2% last year. This is the fifth year of revenue decline shown in Atlantic City, influenced by a number of factors such as the introduction of casinos in neighboring states and a poor economy.
Lobbyists explain that if Atlantic City casinos are able to offer intrastate online gambling to their customers, these casinos will be able to fight back against the competition as they have more variety and options. However, it will still be long while before intrastate online gambling comes to New Jersey due to the hesitation of the state governor, Chris Christie at the last minute that the bill was due to pass into law.
All in all, the report, put out by Spectrum Gaming Group, found that 26.6 million people visited Atlantic City casinos last year. However, the good news is that spending per visitor fell by half that amount. This means that people who have stopped visiting these casinos are those who are considered ‘less profitable’ and those who continue to come have bigger sized bankrolls.
Atlantic City casinos’ win-per-visitor ration was $134 in 2010 – down 3.6% from 2009 and 8% from 2008. The study also found that most of the visitors to Atlantic City casinos (just under 23 million) travelled to the area by car.
