Players in Estonia are at last able to enjoy a range of exciting games from leading online poker site, Poker Stars.
PokerStars.com was granted a preliminary activity license by the Estonian authorities in August 2010 for its PokerStars.ee platform and last week the poker site was granted an operational license by Estonia allowing them to operate an online poker room in the country.
PokerStars.ee is compliant with Estonian law and the country’s residents are therefore now legally able to enjoy playing at PokerStars and also qualify for major land based events across the world such as the PokerStars European Poker Tour.
Michael Holmberg, Nordic and Baltic Marketing Director for PokerStars.com reported that there are thousands of good poker players in Estonia and he was thrilled that the license would now enable them to continue competing at the largest poker site together with players all over the globe.
Homberg added that “PokerStars.com has been the most popular poker room among Estonian players for several years and, with the licensing system now put in place in Estonia, I am convinced the country shows the way for many other European Union nations in terms of regulation.”
PokerStars.com has received a string of operational licenses from numerous jurisdictions across Europe and the site’s Italian offering at PokerStars.it that launched in October 2008 gives players in Italy an opportunity to participate in online poker games in compliance with local laws. After PokerStars.fr launch in June French customers are now also able to participate in the same way.
Poker Stars is licensed in The Isle of Man and is the world’s largest poker site.
