Loto-Quebec, the Canadian state-run provincial lottery operator, has announced that it has gone live with a new online gaming site at EspaceJeux.com. This follows about twelve months of planning and consultation before the authority began offering online gambling. Players were able to begin placing real-money wagers on 1st December 2010.
Kahnawake is a leading international online gaming jurisdiction located in the First Nation of the Mohawks and is in physical proximity to Quebec. Espacejeux.com was launched recently with widespread publicity in the Canadian media and is offering players a large number of prize pool tournaments with millions of dollars in promotions. The site is, however, only available to residents of Quebec and players are able to use credit and debit cards as well as a variety of online bill payment methods so as to top up their accounts.
The website offers gaming in both French and English and the focus appears to be on poker. The site is anticipating that between 10,000 and 20,000 Quebecers will be attracted to the site before Christmas and that it will generate 50 million Canadian dollars in revenue by 2012.
The launch of Espacejeux.com follows on the first provincially regulated online casino in Canada with the launch of PlayNow.com that was launched by The British Columbia Lottery Corporation a few months ago.
EspaceJeux.com offers online poker and online casino games such as blackjack, roulette and table games.
It is expected that the province of Ontario will be the next Canadian province to offer online gambling.
