The news of the Spanish Government’s announcement this week that online gambling operators will be allowed to acquire Spanish online gambling licenses as from January 1st, 2012, has been welcomed by online casino operators who are now in the process of applying for licenses.
The Spanish online gambling trade association (AEDAPI) has, however, warned applicants that it will not be an easy task to be profitable in Spain as there is a high 25% taxation on operator’s net income. A few forms of gambling are also being temporarily excluded. According to the AEDAPI, there is still a lot of work to be done and many ways to improve the gambling laws for the Spanish market.
One of the first groups to announce that they are gearing up to meet the deadline of January 1st was Rank plc who plan to launch its new Spanish online gambling site enRacha.com in 2012. Rank intends offering a wide range of Spanish online slots, skill games, card games and casino and poker games.
Ladbrokes, the United Kingdom betting company, also intends entering the Spanish and Danish online gambling markets and announced an agreement with online casino software provider Microgaming for its online casino and poker products.
Ladbroke’s site for the Spanish market, LBApuestas, will offer a huge suite of online casino titles from Microgaming’s Flash and download casino clients and is ready to go live as soon as its license is received.
Online gamblers in Spain will be able to enjoy a huge selection of poker cash games and tournaments as Ladbrokes will also be leasing Microgaming’s online poker software.
