Studies Prove Online Gambling Improves Cognitive Abilities

There have been many studies testifying to the positive effects that online gambling has on players, such as increasing social activity, improving memory capacity and more.

However, after a study conducted by an American researcher, Rolf Nelson, a Psychology professor at Illinois’ Wheaton College, it has been revealed in a British Science Journal, Perception, that not only does online gambling increase social activity and improve memory capacity amongst players but that it can also have a beneficial effect on the development of an online player’s brain and can improve players’ cognitive abilities.

Nelson conducted the experiment in order to try and understand the way in which video game play can affect subsequent perception and cognitive strategy and he challenged twenty students in his study with a spatial relation riddle before and after they played a strategy and an action game.

Professor Nelson concluded that those who played the action game managed to solve the riddle much faster while those playing the skill game proved to have more accurate results. According to these findings, Nelson has concluded that cognitive speed can be improved by playing action games while cognitive accuracy can be improved in the long-term by playing strategy and puzzle games.

Nelson’s ultimate goal was to understand the way in which video game play affects subsequent perception and cognitive strategy and this goal has been met by his recent findings.

It has already been proven that casino games such as poker are the most challenging skill games on the internet and Nelson’s study has succeeded in strengthening the argument that online gambling can also be of a mental benefit.
