UK Online Gamblers Soars by an Amazing 40%

The results of a study done recently by a Media Research company has revealed that there has been an amazing increase of 40% in the number of gamblers in the UK during the period July 2009 to July 2010. The study shows that an extra 3.2 million people have joined the other gamblers who already wager online in the United Kingdom.

Lottery operator, Camelot, was at the top of the fastest growing online companies with an 88% increase in visitors from 4.4m to 9.4 during that year.

PartyGaming’s poker offering, Party Poker, came in eighth place by attracting an extra 870,000 visitors last year…a 174% rise in customers. There was an additional 1.2m players visiting PartyCasino which showed an increase of 186%.

A Gaming Analyst commented that there has been a huge increase in customers at online poker sites over the past decade and that playing poker over the internet is currently more popular than playing at land-based poker games that are held at casinos throughout the world.

According to the study it would appear that middle-aged men were at the heart of and driving the escalation in online gambling although it was found that 46% of the United Kingdom’s online gamblers are women. Another interesting revelation that came from the study shows that most of the new gamblers are well-educated and are in good jobs earning about GBP 30,000 a year.

Those in the gaming industry are thrilled with the increase of gamblers although many of the anti-gambling groups are very worried about the increasing figures and the fact that it has become much easier for people to gamble online.
